Derek Toebbe

Drawing and painting (“2D”)

“As an artist and landscaper I have learned that we can create anything we can imagine; my goal is to instill that understanding in the students I work with at CATC, even as I learn from them.”

Background

Kids and art go together for Derek Toebbe, who has joined CATC for the 2014-2015 school year as a “2D” (drawing, painting, etc.) instructor. He first discovered his passion for working with young people during a college internship in which the assignment was to provide arts programming for children whose schools could not do so. He says he found it to be the most rewarding experience of his college career.
When Derek is not teaching he works with a Cincinnati-based art collective that provides custom screen printing, graphic design, and marketing apparel–as well as a youth outreach program to create interactive public art installations. He  also has designed custom graphics and apparel for local skate-shops and skateboard companies, and helped build a “DIY” (do-it-yourself) skateboard park in Newport Kentucky.

His passion for nature and gardening finds expression in his  eco-conscious landscape designs. And he still finds time to make his own art, exhibiting almost every year since earning his fine-arts degree in 2006.
